Chennai, April 19 (IANS) DMDK chief A.Vijaykant Saturday came down heavily on city mayor Saidai Duraisamy for the sorry state of civic affairs in the Tamil Nadu capital and the state government for its focus on increasing revenue from liquor sales.

Addressing an election rally in the North Chennai constituency, he said the city’s people are suffering from garbage, mosquitoes and other civic problems, but the mayor is not interested in solving the civic problems faced by the citizens for a long time.
The city is facing extreme mosquito menace but the mayor has not fulfilled his poll promises, he alleged.
Attacking the AIADMK state government headed by J.Jayalalithaa, Vijaykant, the leader of the opposition in the assembly, said the state leads in sale of liquor earning around Rs.28,000 crore.
He said while Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi urges people “padi, padi (study, study)”, here the rulers urge people “kudi, kudi (drink liquor)”.
Vijaykant said if Modi comes to power at the centre, he would secure drinking water and power schemes to Tamil Nadu.
The DMDK is part of the BJP-led six-party alliance in the state.
