Kolkata, Jan 24 (Inditop.com) The ruling Left Front (LF) in West Bengal will work towards realising the unfulfilled dreams of deceased Marxist icon Jyoti Basu in the coming years, state LF chairman Biman Bose said Sunday.

“The state Left Front will follow the ideals which comrade Jyoti Basu had shown us. We pledge to fulfil his unfulfilled dreams into a reality in West Bengal involving common people in the whole process,” Bose said while reading out the condolence note on Basu at a memorial rally here.

A mammoth turn out was seen as thousands of people came with placards and big posters of communist patriarch Jyoti Basu to pay homage to India’s longest-serving chief minister. Many of them had pictures of Basu on their chests that read ‘Jyoti Basu lal salam’ (Red salute to Jyoti Basu).

Giant cut-outs of Jyoti Basu adorned with party flags were put up in and around the meeting venue at the heart of Kolkata. Various hoardings carrying Basu’s famous sayings were also seen displayed at the meeting premises.

“I remember Basu used to say if we cannot perform something, we must go to people and tell them why we have not been able to do the job. We will follow Jyoti Babu’s path and take forward the communist movement in the state,” Bose added.

He said Basu became a mass leader through the various communist movements that he had fought for the working classes and poor farmers.

“Under his able leadership, the communist movement had flourished in the state and in the country as a whole,” Bose said.
