Bhubaneswar, March 4 (IANS) The Congress and BJP in Odisha Tuesday sought an explanation over a meeting between Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and CBI director Ranjit Sinha here while the ruling BJD termed it a “courtesy call”.
The two parties separately said people want to know the reason behind Monday’s meeting.
State Congress chief Jayadev Jena said since the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to probe Patnaik’s role in the mining and chit fund scam, it was essential for people to know about the meeting between the two.
Suresh Pujari, chief spokesperson of the state BJP, said the meeting took place at a time when the Supreme Court was hearing pleas on the scams.
“Is it an attempt to hush up the scams as leaders of both the Biju Janata Dal and the Congress are involved in the scam?” he said.
The BJD said the CBI director was on a visit to the state and his meeting with the chief minister for a few minutes was just a courtesy call.
