New Delhi, July 4 (IANS) The discovery of the ‘God particle’ by scientists at the CERN research centre in Geneva is “very exciting” and the data needs to be studied, said K. Kasturirangan, Member (Science), Planning Commission, here Wednesday.
Addressing media persons here, Kasturirangan said that scientists at the European research centre “seem to have the first evidence of the creation of mass…It is very exciting..the data needs to be studied.”
Ashwani Kumar, minister of state for science and technology, said the discovery “is a matter of great interest to us”.
He added that it was too early to predict what the outcome of the discovery would be.
Scientists at the CERN research centre in Geneva said they have found a new subatomic particle that could be the Higgs boson, or the basic building block of the universe.
