New Delhi, Dec 3 (IANS) The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has refused to give in to Dempo’s demand for releasing seven players from the national team for their home derby in the I-League and the Goan club will be playing Sunday’s home game against Churchill Brothers under protest.

Dempo chairman Srinivas Dempo had threatened to forfeit Sunday’s I-League derby with Churchill Brothers if the seven players were not released.

AIFF secretary general Kushal Das said that the players won’t be released

‘We are not releasing any player for the I-League match. Dempo’s demand doesn’t hold any ground,’ he said.

I-League manager Sunando Dhar told IANS that all the clubs were informed earlier that they would have to play the eighth round of the I-League without national team players.

‘There is no question of releasing the players. We had informed all the clubs before that the eighth round would be played without national team players,’ he said.

India coach Savio Medeira also said that all players were in the camp.

‘The players are with us in the camp and they are not going anywhere,’ Medeira.
