Mumbai, Aug 1 (IANS) CCI ‘Billiards Boys’ and Park Club ‘Samurais’ fashioned exciting wins to storm into the quarter-finals of The Zarine and Yazdi Daruvala Charitable Trust Mumbai Billiards League at the Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana Wednesday.
With a blend of youth and experience, ‘Billiards Boys’ halted a gallant PJ Hindu Gymkhana ‘Canon Kings’ 726-713 in a thriller, while ‘Samurais’ edged out Shivaji Park Gymkhana ‘Golden Eagles’ 653-574.
Vishal Gehani and Amit Sapru put ‘Samurais’ in a strong position after winning the opening two ties convincingly. It left Sanjeev Bijlani a modest target of 78 in the decider against Shekhar Surve that ended the campaign of the ‘Eagles’.
Veteran Kekoo Nicholson gave ‘Billiards Boys’ a dream start before Devansh Jariwala offered ‘Canon Kings’ hope with a significant 200-156 win over formidable Hasan Badami in the second tie that led the contest into a gripping third tie.
Set a target of 166, Devang Shah of ‘Canon Kings’ came up with impressive shots but fell short by just 13 points while giving CCI’s Hitesh Kotwani anxious moments in the gripping decider.
