Kolkata, Sep 2 (IANS) Chaos and mismanagement reigned supreme at the city’s Salt Lake stadium gates with people remaining stranded in lengthy queues as security personnel took an inordinately long time frisking and searching them.

People from across the country and even abroad have come into the city to watch the much anticipated FIFA international friendly match between soccer icon Lionel Messi led Argentina and Venezuela Friday.

The queues as long as two km remained stationery for over 30 minutes just before the beginning of the match. The delay was mostly because of the elaborate security measures put up at the stadium coupled with inefficiency of the security personnel who took much time to get the safety checks done.

Aninda Sarkar who had bought a Rs. 2,500 ticket for the match was seen standing in queue behind hundreds near Hyatt Regency. The Argentine team hotel, which is nearly a kilometer away from the stadium.

As the whistle blew for the match to start there was a mad rush of people towards the stadium entrances. People jostled and pushed each other in their endeavour to get in.
