New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) As allegations of corruption and poor preparation shadow the October Commonwealth Games, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao has described the event as a national pride.

‘Organising Commonwealth Games is a national pride,’ she said in an interview to All India Radio.

The foreign secretary said her ministry was in touch with all participating countries.

‘The (ministry of external affairs) is in close touch with the participating countries. All information regarding the games is given to them,’ she said.

She added that the allegations of corruption had not had much effect on the image of the Games abroad.

‘I hope the Commonwealth Games will be successfully conducted as preparations are in full swing,’ she added.
