New Delhi, Dec 27 (Inditop.com) The fifth and final One-day international between India and Sri Lanka at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground here Sunday has been called off due to unplayable pitch conditions.
Sri Lanka were struggling at 83 for five in 23.3 overs when skipper Kumar Sangakkara instructed batsmen Muthumudalige Pushpakumara and Thilina Kandamby to stop after after a ball from debutant pacer Sudip Tyagi flew past Kandamby and wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
It was the third occasion and twice in the same over when the ball had dangerously gone past the batsmen. Twice the ball took off from just back of a good length spot.
An earlier delivery from left arm pacer Ashish Nehra hit Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan in the 10th over, felling him.
Dilshan was in agony but continued to play after medical attention.
The two captains, Sangakkara and Dhoni, umpires Shavir Tarapore, Marais Erasmus and match referee Alan Hurst had a long discussion in the middle before the players left the ground.
