New Delhi, Jan 11 (Inditop.com) Former South Africa coach Eric Simmons has been appointed as the bowling consultant for the Indian cricket team, it was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) here Monday.
Simmons will be joining the team in Bangladesh for the Test series starting Jan 17 and then the subsequent series against South Africa at home.
“Eric Simons has been appointed bowling consultant… for the Test series against Bangladesh and the test and ODI series against South Africa,” BCCI said in a statement.
The 47-year-old Simons was a medium-pace bowler and a handy lower-order batsman and played 23 one-day internationals between 1994 and 1995. Apparently India coach Gary Kirsten has also played under Simmons when he was South Africa coach from 2002-04.
The BCCI has also appointed Australian Mike Young as fielding consultant. The Indian cricket board had sacked Venkatesh Prasad and Robin Singh as bowling and fielding coaches in October after the country’s early exit from the Twenty20 World Cup in England and the Champions Trophy in South Africa.
