Sydney, Jan 1 (Inditop.com) Australia cricket captain Ricky Ponting is happy with the way his spinners, especially Nathan Hauritz and newcomer Steve Smith, are improving.

Ponting’s comments come a month after he raised his concerns over the dearth of good slow bowlers in the country.

“I’m very happy with the way our spin bowling stocks are looking at the moment,” Ponting was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.

“A few weeks ago down in Adelaide for the Adelaide Test, I got to spend a bit of time with John Davison, who’s a spin bowling coach at the Centre of Excellence. He’s very positive about the guys we’ve got coming through. (Jason) Krejza has shown a lot of improvement this year in domestic cricket.”

“His wicket numbers might not suggest that but if you talk to a lot of the players who have played him and seen him bowl this year, they seem to think that he’s definitely on the right track,” he added.

Ponting was also happy to see Jon Holland make the best use of the opportunity he got playing a first-class game for Victoria last week and get a few wickets.

“And then you’ve got Smith, so there are a few guys around at the moment. That’s a real positive for us. We’ve been looking and waiting for these younger guys to really come on and develop, and hopefully the states are doing the right thing by them to give them the chance to develop as quickly as possible,” he said.
