Kolkata, Feb 17 (Inditop.com) Heavy overnight rain delayed the start of the fourth day’s play of the second cricket Test between South Africa and India here Wednesday.

Though the rain ceased Wednesday morning, the match, slated to have an early start at 8:57 a.m. to accommodate five extra overs that had not been bowled on the third day Tuesday, could not take off due to the wet outfield.

Under very overcast conditions, umpires Ian Gould and Steve Davies carried out an inspection at 9:30 a.m. and decided the outfield was unfit for play.

The next inspection will be at 10 a.m.

The city was lashed by 15.5 mm of rainfall since Tuesday night making the ground soggy.

The met office has forecast more rain during the day.
