New Delhi, Nov 1 (IANS) Arindam Das smashed an unbeaten 150 as Bengal piled up 313 for two against Delhi on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Super League match here Monday.
Openers Das and Shreevats Goswami (68) shared a 133-run stand to lay the foundation for the big score. Manoj Tiwary then added 47 as he and Das saw off Bengal through till the stumps.
The low and slow lifeless Ferozeshah Kotla track had little to offer to the bowlers, and the Bengal batsmen played patiently to take advantage on the opening day.
Bengal made a good start as Goswami and Das punished Delhi’s pacers. Goswami was impressive with his drives through the covers. The diminutive left-hander played some fluent shots off the pacers to set early tone for the match and quickly raced to his half century.
Delhi captain Mithun Manhas introduced spinner Chetanya Nanda but Goswami was quick to use his feet to hit the boundaries.
The veteran Das bade his time in the middle and settled for a long innings.
It was captain Manhas who got the breakthrough when he had Goswami caught by Narwal. Goswami hit 10 fours and one six.
Manhas also claimed the wicket of Abhishek Chowdhury (20) before Bengal captain Tiwary and Das combined for an unbeaten 110-run stand.
