Bengaluru, June 4 (IANS) I-League football club Bengaluru FC skipper Sunil Chhetri on Thursday said his side did not miss out on the title due to being held 1-1 in their final game against Mohun Bagan.

Bengaluru missed on their back-to-back I-League crown last weekend as they were held draw by Mohun Bagan here. Going into their final game of the season, the home side needed a win to ensure that they retain their title but a draw helped Mohun Bagan to end their trophy drought.
“I don’t think the title was lost in the last game. There are many points we should’ve won, the games that come to mind are the Royal Wahingdoh game, at home, wherein a last minute deflection was key,” Chhetri was quoted as saying by goal.com.
“Also the away game against Mumbai where we totally dominated them, but they just scored from nowhere. These games, including the first game against Dempo where I missed a penalty which was eventually drawn, all of them came back to haunt us.”
With 21,786 fans attending the final home game of the season for Bengaluru, Chhetri stated that he is proud to be a part of Bengaluru and thanked fans for their tremendous support.
“My message for fans, I can’t sum that in words. I’ve played 13 odd games in front of them this season and by far they are the best fans. The crowd in the last game, where the Mohun Bagan fans were also in the stands, was just amazing.
“It’s amazing how Bangalore fans love and have taken to football. It’s something fans all over the country should learn. They’re tremendous. I’m proud of them and to be a part of Bengaluru as well,” the 30-year-old concluded.
