Chennai, Nov 28 (Inditop.com) K. Vinoth of Wallace Sports delivered a double in the first round of the JK Tyre Junior Cup racing championship here Friday.
Vinoth, a biker turned four-wheeler racer, but no stranger to the entry-level class (Formula Maruti engine) of racing, started from pole position and won quite comfortably.
The second race was red flagged after five of the eight laps were completed following a collision in the straight between turn one and two, involving Sandeep Kumar of Rams Racing and team-mate Isaac Joseph. Neither driver was injured.
There was plenty of action behind Vinoth with other drivers jockeying for positions and their inexperience in picking overtaking areas showed up rather glaringly while it led to a few contacts, though none of them serious.
The four-round championship is restricted to participants who have not previously raced or won a race. The championship winner will earn a scholarship drive in the 2010 Formula LGB Swift class which is the next level of Indian formula racing.
The results:
Race 1 (8 laps): K Vinoth (Wallace Sports) 1 (10 min, 14.287 sec); Vikash Anand (Wallace Sports) 2 (10:15.634); Karthik Krishna (Rams Racing) 3 (10:28.421).
Race 2 (5 laps): K Vinoth (Wallace Sports) 1 (06:24.666); Vikash Anand (Wallace Sports) 2 (06:26.807); Karthik Krishna (Rams Racing) 3 (06:28.281).
