New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) Elaborate and world-class arrangements have been made to ensure a safe and healthy Commonwealth Games, the organising committee said Thursday, outlining the medical measures put in place for athletes and spectators during the mega event.

‘We have all the facilities in place — three designated hospitals, a polyclinic at the Games Village, medical centres at all the stadia, competition and training venues besides first aid posts for spectators at the competition venues,’ Games Chief Medical Officer Bharat Inder Singh told reporters.

‘Also, we have a team of 1,882 doctors and staff. I can only say that our medical cover is dynamic,’ he added.

Singh said the designated hospitals are the G.B. Pant Hospital, AIIMS Trauma Centre and the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Facilities at all of them are ready.

Noting that medical centres at all the stadia are ready, he said the polyclinic at the Games Village will be handed over to the Organising Committee Sep 7.

The designated medical workforce for the Games includes 386 doctors, 262 nursing staff, 103 physio-therapists, 95 massage therapists besides a group of 179 medical students as volunteers.

As per the plan, there will be 64 ambulances with 857 support staff and first aid staff to offer round-the-clock ambulance services. Also, spectators’ tickets will entitle them medical facilities at all Games venues.

‘The doctors are from the central and the Delhi government’s hospitals. But, what I can promise is that the equipment, infrastructure, world-class training to doctors and nursing staff are going to remain with the city forever after the Games,’ Singh said to a query.

The chief medical officer said special arrangements have also been made for the opening and closing ceremonies at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to meet specific requirements of the general public and performers.

He said all the facilities will be provided free of cost.

Besides, 95 massage therapists are sourced from Kerala and will be part of a medical workforce.

Singh said Fortis Hospital at Noida has been designated as the facility for the Noida road race.
