Kolkata, Jan 2 (IANS) Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, who has been described as “captain cool” by his coach Dav Whatmore, Wednesday said that as a leader of the team it is essential not to show emotions on the field.
“As the captain, it is essential that you do not show emotions or anger on the field. On the field there is no place for emotions. The important thing is you give your 100 percent and not think about winning or losing which is not under your control,” Misbah told mediapersons on the eve of the crucial ODI against India at the iconic Eden Gardens here.
Misbah also exuded confidence about his team doing well at the Eden where Pakistan have won all the three ODIs they have played against India.
“It certainly gives you confidence. Both as a team and players, we have very good memories from here. When you have done well at a particular venue you feel confident but at the same time we need to play well here to win,” said Misbah.
The Pakistani skipper also said that India will miss batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who recently retired from ODIs.
“It is quite natural that when a legend like Sachin retires, the team will miss him. It will take some time before other players perform well enough and the team learns to live without a great player like him,” said Misbah.
He also batted for all-rounder Shahid Afridi who was dropped from the Pakistan squad for the series.
“There are times when a player cannot perform well and he is going through that time. But he is a great player and will surely make a comeback. He has still some cricket left in him for the country,” said Misbah.
He also warned his bowlers to be on their toes against Indian openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag.
“The Indian openers are dangerous and more often than not they score quick runs in the first ten overs. So it is imperative that we bowl well initially,” said Misbah adding that lanky pacer Mohammad Irfan will prove handy against the Indian batsmen.
