London, July 3 (Inditop.com) Injury prone striker Michael Owen’s struggling career received a boost as he underwent a medical test at the Old Trafford before his proposed move to Manchester United.
If the 29-year-old Owen, whose contract with relegated Newcastle lapsed Tuesday, gets an all-clear from Manchester United’s medical staff, in all probability he will join the English champions and will also stand a chance of reviving his national career for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.
After becoming a free agent, since his contract with Newcastle expired this week, Owen had offers from Hull, Stoke, Tottenham and Portsmouth.
The Daily Telegraph reported that if the tests on his troublesome knee are positive, Owen will get a good deal but not what he used to get at the St. James Park. Owen was paid 115,000 pounds per week by Newcastle.
At Manchester, Owen will also get a chance to prove himself at the Champions League level and also to regain his place in the national team.
- If Owen gets selected, he will be able to plug one of the gaps left due to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.
