Paris, July 2 (DPA) European football supremo Michel Platini is annoyed by Real Madrid’s summer spending spree but there is no way to stop the Spanish giants from splashing out the money.
“I believe that this whole thing is not quite normal. I don’t like it,” the UEFA president Platini told Thursday’s edition of French sports daily L’Equipe.
Real have spent more than 200 million (282 million dollars) on new players over the past weeks, highlighted by a world record 94 million euros for Cristiano Ronaldo and 65 million for Kaka. They are also after Franck Ribery who, if released by Bayern Munich, could be as expensive as Kaka.
“I can not understand that you can spend 90 million euros on a player. It annoys me,” said Platini.
But the former France playmaker also conceded that UEFA had no power to stop clubs from spending huge sums.
“I repeat: what can I do if the clubs have the money?,” Platini asked.
