New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) Puneet Bisht’s unbeaten century and a six-wicket haul by pacer Ashish Nehra brought Delhi back into the match against Baroda while Suryakumar Yadav struck a double-hundred to put Mumbai in a commanding position against Orissa on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Division matches Wednesday.
It was a topsy-turvy day at Ferozeshah Kotla here with both Baroda and Delhi having their moments. Baroda resumed the day at a promising 273 for three but collapsed to 318 all out in the first innings courtesy Nehra (6/102), who ran through their middle-order. The left-arm pacer silenced his critics after having an ordinary opening day when he conceded 84 runs in 18 overs.
The hosts were struggling at 74/5 bur a 136-run stand between wicket-keeper Bisht and skipper Mithun Manhas resurrected the innings to 250 for six at stumps. Bisht smashed 114 off 134 balls while Manhas contributed with 49. Baroda’s Irfan Pathan continued his good form with the bowl in the current season, picking up five for 82. He is currently the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 19 scalps in four matches.
At the DRIEMS Ground in Cuttack, Yadav’s scored his runs at blistering pace as his 200 came off 232 balls and it propelled Mumbai to 529 for eight declared in the first innings. The visitors had Orissa on the mat at 57/7 at stumps. Medium pacer Dhawal Kulkarni took four wickets while Zaheer Khan making a comeback bowled six overs and picked up a wicket for 20 runs.
K.B. Pawan was another centurion of the day as he made 118 in Karnataka’s 369 for four against Saurashtra at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
