New Delhi, Sep 19 (Inditop.com) Eighth-seeded Rushmi Chakravarthy outclassed compatriot Sanaa Bhambri 6-3, 6-1 to claim the $10,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament at the DLTA complex here Saturday.

The 31-year-old Rushmi, who had lost to Sanaa in their only meeting in the 2006 Ahmedabad ITF event, did not drop a set in the tournament, wrapping the proceedings in a little over an hour.

The Indian Oil Officer from Chennai was out of action for a couple of months due to a knee injury but that hardly had any bearing on her game as she broke Delhi girl Sanaa in the very first game of the match but dropped her serve in the fourth to fritter away the advantage.

But Rushmi, serving strong and hitting freely, immediately broke back an error-prone seventh-seeded Sanaa and when the left-hander again dropped her serve in the ninth game, the set was gone.

Rushmi was in complete control in the second set, giving away just a game, to win the set and the match.

“I played pretty sharp today. I know Sanaa’s game and she played the way I had anticipated. My forehand shots were coming good today and I am glad to win the final. It has been a good week for me,” said Rushmi, who last won an ITF tite last year in June at the National Tennis Academy (NTA) in Gurgaon.

Rushmi will next play at Dehradun in the ITF tournament that begins Monday.
