New Delhi, Dec 27 (Inditop) Third seed Sandra Zahlavova of Czech Republic overpowered Serbia’s Bojana Jovanovski, 6-4, 6-3, to clinch the $50,000 women’s ITF tournament at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) courts here Saturday.
Bojana, 16, who put out the first and fifth seeds en route, had no answer to 23-year-old Sandra’s aggressive play. The Czech found a chink in the Serb’s armour, a weak forehand, and attacked it relentlessly, though both had problems with their serve to start with.
In the first set, the games went against serve till Bojana held in the fifth game. Another break in the ninth game saw Sandra take the set by serving out in the next.
Sandra got off to a terrific start in the second set by breaking the Serb’s serve twice to go 3-0 up. Bojana, however, managed to pull a break back in the fourth game. Sandra responded by breaking Bojana’s serve in the ninth to take the set and the match.
“I was nervous in the beginning. But after that I played attacking tennis as I knew Bojana plays very well and hits her shots with a lot of power. The first set was tough, but in the second I was in control,” said Sandra, ranked 186.
The win fetched Sandra $7,315 and 35 points while to Bojana $3,990 and 29 points.
