Durban, May 14 (Inditop) The secret behind Delhi Daredevils’ success in the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a bonus of $50,000 for every victory, reveals skipper Virender Sehwag.
Daredevils have performed consistently in the tournament, winning eight of their 10 matches and are nearly assured of a semi-final place with 16 points.
“We are getting $50,000 from our franchise (GMR) for every victory. That’s always a nice motivation,” Sehwag said after Daredevils snatched an unlikely victory against Deccan Chargers here Wednesday.
Chargers were cruising at 149 for three in 16.5 overs with Andrew Symonds and Ravi Teja at crease.
Sehwag handed the ball to Rajat Bhatia, who with the wicket of Symonds, triggered a lower order collapse. From a winning position, Chargers lost seven wickets in 17 balls with Bhatia claiming four wickets that included Dwayne Smith, Pragyan Ojha and Shoaib Maqsusi.
“When Andrew Symonds was batting we were in trouble. Bhatia got his wicket and the game changed in a couple of overs. I rely on Bhatia because I know he can bowl good yorkers and the slower ones. So it’s a good win for us,” Sehwag said.
The Daredevils captain also praised young left-arm pacer Pradeep Sangwan, who took three top-order wickets .
“Pradeep Sangwan bowled really well. We didn’t have any chance when Adam Gilchrist and Symonds were playing. Our bowlers stuck to the job.”
