Bangalore, Sep 14 (IANS) Chandril Sood of Uttar Pradesh capped his fine run by defeating Mayur Mayur Jayaprakash (TN) 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the final to annex the men’s singles title in the Rs.3.5 lakh DS Max Top Spin AITA tennis tournament here Saturday.

In the women’s singles final, second seed, Sai Samhita of Tamil Nadu overcame Maharashtra’s Adnya Naik 6-4, 6-2.
The 22-year old Sood, who was the fourth seed, played yet another three-setter, lasting three hours to overpower second seeded Jayaprakash in an engrossing tie marked by some superb rallies with both youngsters trading blow for blow.
But it was Sood’s searing cross-court returns and strong smashes that gave him the edge. Jayaprakash was aggressive in his approach with his big serve and strong forehand, but was not too consistent and often fumbled on big points at crucial stages.
The honours belonged to Jayaprakash in the first set as he took a 3-0 lead with a break in the second game, but Sood cut the deficit breaking back in the fifth game. Jayaprakash however relentlessly pushed on to wrap up the set with yet another break in the 10th game.
The second set saw both players slowling down the game a bit and engage in long rallies. Jayaprakash had a few breakpoints, but couldn’t quite capitalize on them while Sood with a twin break took the set 6-2.
The decider saw a fierce contest, but Jayaprakash was clearly unlucky as he dropped serve in the third game unsettled by a disputed line call. Sood hung on to to his lead to forge ahead at 4-2 and later kept his serve in the crucial 10th to close the match.
“This is my best win of the season. Moht is such a good hitter and I am pleased with my performance,” said Sood who picked up a purse for Rs.27,300 while Jayarparakash earned Rs 18,900.
In the women’s singles final, 18-year-old Chennai girl Sai Samhita survived a tough first set to beat an in-form Adnya Naik.
Samihta’s backhand slice and solid forehand worked well as she dismantled 20-year old Adnya’s challenge.
Adnya, a student of Rizvi College of Architecture in Mumbai and who has played in couple of junior Wimbledon events, is a power hitter, but she came up short in the final with quite a few unforced errors .
In the first set, Adnya took a 3-1 lead breaking her rival in the fourth game, but Samhita hit back in the fifth and later leveled the score at 4 all before going on to take the set 6-4 with another break of serve in the ninth.
The second set totally belonged to Samhita who broke Adnya in the third and fifth for a 5-2 lead and then held serve to take the match.
It was Sai Samhita’s second big priz money tournament win as earlier she had won the title in Hyderabad in May. The victory here fetched Samhita Rs 18,200 while Adnya was richer by Rs 12,600 .
