Rome, Oct 27 (DPA) Roma captain Francesco Totti underwent knee surgery in a Rome clinic Monday and is to immediately begin recuperation, the Serie A club’s website reported.

Totti, 33, had been sidelined for the past three weeks because of pain in his right knee.

Doctors who removed a damaged meniscus did not find any other problems with the knee.

The striker is his side’s best scorer this season with 16 goals in the Serie A and Europa League.
