Mumbai/ Johannesburg, May 26 (Inditop): Left- arm seamer Zaheer Khan is doubtful for the ICC World Twenty20, which is scheduled to begin from June 5 in England.
Zaheer, who was part of the Mumbai Indians team in the just concluded IPL, had injured his bowling shoulder while playing against Royal Challengers in Johannesburg on May 3.
Injury had forced Zaheer out of the IPL tournament, and it will be a big blow if he is not able to recover in time to play for India’s defence of their World Twenty20 title.
As a result, he has chosen to stay back in South Africa to complete his rehab.
“Yes, he is there. He is working with a South African doctor and an update will be issued soon by the BCCI. But let me tell you his recovery is on track and he is expected to play the first game against Bangladesh (at Trent Bridge on June 5),” a member of the Indian team support staff said.
