Raipur, Sep 19 (Inditop.com) Police Saturday recovered the bodies of five policemen of elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (Cobra) in jungles where rebels and police battled throughout Friday.
With this, the death toll among securitymen in one of the biggest offensive in the Maoist bastion has gone up to six. Cobra assistant commandant Manoranjan Singh was killed Friday. Bodies of 10 ultras have also been found.
“Dozens of policemen and a chopper were pressed into service in state’s southern forested tip to search for the missing cops Saturday. The ground troops recovered five bodies of Cobra men – one assistant commandant identified as Rakesh, one sub-inspector, one head constable and two constables,” Deputy Inspector General (Raipur) Pawan Deo told Inditop.
A chopper was sent to the southern Maoist-hit areas of Chhattisagrh to look for the policemen who went missing after battling guerrillas in Dantewada district Friday.
At least 10 Maoists were killed Friday as hundreds of security personnel launched operations against the guerrillas across Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region.
A deputy commandant of the CRPF was killed and several troopers were injured when the guerrillas retaliated after coming under heavy fire in operations led by the special anti-Maoist Cobra force.
