Srinagar, Aug 3 (Inditop.com) Four separatist guerrillas and a soldier have been killed in the three-day north Kashmir gunfight that ended here early Monday.

“Four terrorists have been killed in the gunfight with the security forces in the Nowgam sector of the line of control in Handwara district,” a defence spokesman told IANS here. “One soldier of the army also lost his life while fighting the terrorists.”

The identity of the slain guerrillas is still to be established, according to the spokesman.

The gunfight had started Saturday night when a group of heavily armed guerrillas was spotted by the army in the Bagus Valley, 112 km from here.

In another incident, militants hurled a grenade in the Rambagh area of this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir late Sunday evening, targeting a group of securitymen.

Police said the grenade missed the target and exploded on the road, injuring four civilians who had to be taken to hospital.

“One of the injured persons is in critical condition,” said one of the doctors treating the victims.

Islamist militants have picked up their activities in the Kashmir valley after street protests called by separatists subsided with the arrest four policemen who have been charged with the rape and murder of two women in south Kashmir Shopian district on May 30.
