Ranchi, Feb 20 (Inditop.com) Two of the 14 people, whose release was sought by Maoists in Jharkhand to free an abducted government official, were released on bail Saturday, a police official said.
Jasmi Mardi and her father Bahadur Mardi were given bail by a Jamshedpur court. They were arrested a few months ago on charges of being Maoists.
The banned group, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Feb 13 abducted Prasant Layak, a Block Development Officer (BDO), from his office in Dhalbhumgarh block of East Singhbhum district, of which Jamshedpur is the biggest city.
The BDO was released Friday after the Jharkhand government agreed to re-investigate the cases of 14 people jailed on charges of being Maoists.
Inspector General of Police of Kolhan region Rezi Dundung Wednesday visited Ghatshila sub jail of East Singhbhum where the 14 people were kept.
Dundung told reporters: “Two of the 14 people were innocent and they were booked on fake charges.” The two people who were termed innocent by Dundung were Jasmi and Bahadur.
The state government has also requested permission from a Jamshedpur court to re-investigate the case of 12 others whose release was sought by the Maoists.
