Mumbai, Jan 19 (Inditop.com) An alleged Maoist leader was arrested from his house in north-east Mumbai Monday night, police said Tuesday.

Surya Devra Prabhakar was taken into custody by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) in Kanjurmarg suburb.

The ATS also recovered a bag containing literature of the Communist Party of India-Maoist.

A Central Railway pass with his photograph but in the name of Bharat Raman Gandhi was also seized.

Prabhakar reportedly admitted that he had been linked to the People’s War Group (PWG) since 1978. The PWG has since merged with the CPI-Maoist.

The ATS stumbled upon Prabhakar’s name during the interrogation of Shrinivasan and Vernon Gonsalves, two hardcore CPI-Maoist activists arrested in 2007.

Prabhakar kept shifting his place of residence in the past few years. He has lived in Vasai, Mira Road and Ambernath suburbs of Thane district, followed by Mankhurd and Kanjurmarg in north-east Mumbai.
