Bhubaneswar, Aug 6 (Inditop.com) Maoists burnt down battery rooms of two mobile telephone towers in Orissa’s Koraput district, police said Thursday.

The rebels set fire to the battery rooms of the towers near Dangabadi and Ramgiri village, some 70 km from the district headquarters Koraput Wednesday night.

“Maoists set ablaze the battery rooms of two towers belonging to Reliance and Airtel respectively,” Deepak Kumar, district superintendent of police, told Inditop.

The rebels who are active in more than half of the state’s 30 districts have caused damage to more than a dozen such towers in three southern districts Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada in the past month, police said.

Koraput is about 500 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
