Gir Somnath district administration carried out a major anti-encroachment drive behind Somnath temple, demolishing nine religious structures and 45 travellers’ lodges built on government land in Prabhas Patan. The operation, involving 1,400 police personnel and heavy machinery, cleared 102 acres worth Rs 320 crore. Notices were issued prior to the demolitions to allow occupants time to vacate.
