Cairo, July 1 (IANS) The Egyptian army on Wednesday said 10 soldiers were killed in militant attacks on five checkpoints in the Egyptian province of North Sinai.

Meanwhile, at least 22 terrorists were killed in clashes between soldiers and militants, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said in a statement, according to Xinhua news agency.
Earlier on Wednesday, a top security source told Xinhua that at least 50 security forces were killed in a wave of attacks on military bases.
Initial information said some 70 “terrorists” attacked five military checkpoints simultaneously, the military statement added.
The attacks came two days after Egypt’s prosecutor general Hisham Barakat was assassinated in a car bomb attack.
At Barakat’s funeral on Tuesday, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi pledged tougher laws against militants.
