Beijing, June 1 (IANS) At least 16 people were killed following heavy rainfall in parts of southern China, authorities said on Monday.
According to the ministry of civil affairs (MCA), during May 25-27 and 28-31, two spells of heavy rainfall occurred in the southern parts of China, leading to casualties in Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other provincial regions, Xinhua news agency reported.
The heavy rainfall led to related disasters including floods, landslides and mudslides.
Three people were still reported missing, the ministry said.
The MCA added that from May 29 to 30, strong winds and heavy hail hit parts of northwest and north China, affecting almost 420,000 people.
