Cairo, March 1 (IANS) At least 28 militants were killed and 16 others arrested in raids in Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid cities of Egypt’s North Sinai province, an official said Sunday.
“Fifteen huts, seven vehicles and 24 motorbikes were destroyed in the raids Saturday and a truck carrying a tonne of oil seized — all belonged to the extremists,” the official told Xinhua.
Over the past few weeks, security forces have killed over 200 militants in the province as part of an “anti-terror war” launched by the new Egyptian leadership.
The new leadership launched a crackdown against former president Mohamed Morsi’s supporters, which has left at least 1,000 persons killed besides arrests of several thousands.
