Kinshasa, Dec 30 (IANS) At least 40 gunmen were killed Monday in clashes which ended in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital Kinshasa, and the situation is under control.
A government source said at least 40 attackers, who took part in gunfights, were killed in the city, Xinhua reported.
The attackers took hostages at the Congolese national TV station, and fired guns at the international airport and military headquarters.
A Xinhua reporter saw more than 20 dead gunmen, 10 of whom were killed at the national TV headquarters by government forces. The forces took control of the TV station and arrested about a dozen people.
Unidentified sources said there were similar attacks in the country’s eastern mining city of Lubumbashi.
