London, May 31 (IANS) As many as 14 tortoises, including some that were over 100 years old, were stolen from a greenhouse in Britain, a media report said Tuesday.
A forensic expert has begun to look for the tortoises that were stolen in Sevenoaks, Kent, The Sun reported Tuesday.
‘I never imagined they (police) would send a forensic officer, but it shows they are taking it seriously,’ the tortoises’ owner Lisa McIntyre was quoted as saying.
The seven adult and three young Horsfield tortoises were taken along with four of the spur-thighed reptiles from the heated greenhouse.
John Hayward, of the National Theft Register for exotic pets, said: ‘These tortoises are on the endangered species list.’
