Tehran, July 14 (IANS) Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri who surfaced at the Pakistani embassy in Washington after his alleged abduction by US spies last year is on his way to Tehran, Iran’s state-run Press TV reported Wednesday.

Amiri took refuge Tuesday at the Pakistani embassy, which preserves Iran’s interests in the US, demanding his ‘immediate return’ to Iran.

He said American and Saudi officials abducted him and brought him to the US, while he was on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia in June 2009.

Holding the US accountable for Amiri’s abduction, the Iranian foreign ministry earlier this month summoned the Swiss charge d’affaires, whose embassy represents US interests in Iran, and handed over documents related to the kidnapping.
