Baghdad, April 22 (Inditop.com/AKI) An Al Qaeda militant allegedly in charge of relations between the terror outfit’s network across Iraq and other countries was arrested Thursday.
The man was arrested in Baquba city when he was organising a suicide attack against the city’s police headquarters, the Arab daily Al-Hayat reported citing intelligence sources.
The intelligence officials said the arrest of the Al Qaeda foreign relations chief was of high value and he was already cooperating with anti-terror investigators.
The investigators are particularly eager to learn how Al Qaeda will retaliate for the recent killings of its leaders, the paper said.
Three top Al Qaeda leaders were killed in Iraq this week. The US and Iraqi forces had killed Ahmed al-Obeidi in Nineveh province, Army officials said Tuesday.
Obeidi, also known as Abu Suhaib, was in charge of the outfit’s operations in the northern provinces of Kirkuk, Salahuddin and Nineveh, Iraqi military spokesman Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi said.
Two other leaders – Abu Ayyub al-Masri and Abu Omar al-Baghdadi – were killed Sunday in a shootout 10 km from Tikrit.
