Malaga (Spain), Feb 6 (IANS) Midfielder Juanpi Anor scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead Malaga to a 3-0 victory here over an error-prone Getafe side in the La Liga.
While the home team on Friday dominated play from the opening whistle, Getafe seemed up to the task of containing them until Juanpi snagged a loose ball and evaded two defenders before beating the goalkeeper with a low shot to make it 1-0 in the ninth minute, reports Efe.
The Madrid squad responded by pressing higher in a bid to grab a quick equaliser, but the tactic backfired as Charles relayed a great ball from Juanpi to newcomer Atsu, who doubled the lead to 2-0 with a crossing shot in the 23rd minute.
The visitors continued in pursuit of a goal to get back in the match and Malaga keeper Kameni was forced to make a pair of stops against Moi Gomez and Victor Rodriguez in the space of five minutes.
Juanpi wasn’t done yet, however, and he engineered the play that ended with Charles’ goal just before half-time to increase Malaga’s advantage to 3-0.
The second half was scoreless.
Malaga’s second straight league puts the team in 10th place with 30 points from 23 matches, four points ahead of Getafe.
