Patna, Jan 21 (Inditop.com) An Afghan national, who has close links with the Taliban and was arrested in Purnia district of Bihar for trying to illegally sneak into Bangladesh, will be shifted to a central jail for security reasons, police said Thursday.
“Ghulam Rasool Khan alias Khan Mirza, who is currently lodged in Purnia jail, will be shifted to a central jail soon,” a police officer told Inditop over phone from Purnia.
He said that a request letter was sent to IG, Prison, to transfer Khan to a central jail in the state for security reasons.
Khan has been kept under strict surveillance in a separate cell in Purnia jail, he said.
According to the police, he had confessed to having links with the Taliban in Afghanistan.
“He told police about his connection with the Taliban,” Additional Director General of police U.S. Dutt said Tuesday.
On the basis of intelligence inputs, Khan was arrested in Purnia district Jan 13 while planning to cross the India-Bangladesh border. A Pakistani passport and other important documents were recovered from him.
He was brought to Patna for interrogation and produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate, Purnia. Thereafter, he was sent to judicial custody.
