Madrid, Nov 24 (EFE) Spain’s Acciona Energia said it has completed the assembly of the Eurus wind farm in Mexico, an energy facility with total potential generating capacity of 250.5 MW and costing $550 million.
Eurus is the largest wind farm in Latin America, Acciona Energia said Monday.
The Spanish company is developing the alternative energy project with Mexican cement giant Cemex, which is trying to achieve energy self-sufficiency.
The wind farm has 167 turbines that each have a generating capacity of 1.5 MW.
The energy facility is expected to begin operating in the next few weeks, Acciona Energia said.
The wind farm will generate enough electricity to supply 500,000 people and will reduce emissions of CO2, the gas believed to cause global warming, by some 600,000 tons annually.
Eurus will meet some 25 percent of Cemex’s energy needs in Mexico, according to estimates, Acciona Energia said.
