Sydney, Feb 2 (IANS) Australia’s trade surplus widened in December 2011, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reported Thursday.

The balance on goods and services was a surplus of AUS $1.71 billion ($1.84 billion) in December 2011, a rise of AUS $366 million from that in November 2011, the ABS said.
Economists had forecast a surplus of AUS $1.2 billion in December, reported Xinhua.
The ABS data showed exports of goods and services were up two percent to AUS $27.79 billion in December, while imports of goods and services rose one percent to AUS $26.08 billion in the month.
