Dhaka, July 2 (IANS) A Bangladeshi national has been shot dead by a gang of robbers in Libya, said a senior Bangladeshi official posted in the north African country.
Abdus Shahid, a 50-year-old construction worker, was killed in Sabah city, 700 km south of capital Tripoli, earlier this week.
He became the country’s first reported death since the Libyan political crisis began in February, Ahsan Kibria Siddiqui, first secretary in the Bangladesh embassy in Libya, told the Daily Star over phone.
The deceased had gone to visit his friend when the robbers attacked the friend’s house.
Around 37,000 Bangladeshi workers have returned home from Libya since the crisis began.
