Brussels, Feb 2 (Inditop.com) UN Under-Secretary-General Radhika Coomaraswamy was Tuesday awarded an honorary doctorate by a Belgian university for her efforts at promoting rights of women and children.
Leuven University chose Coomaraswamy for the degree in recognition of the work she has done to promote the rights of women and children, EuAsiaNews reported.
Coomaraswamy, a former chairperson of the Human Rights Commission in her country Sri Lanka, was appointed under-secretary-general, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict by the United Nations in 2006.
