Athens, Dec 31 (DPA) An explosive device detonated outside a closed nightclub in Athens early Friday with no injuries reported, officials said.

The blast caused slight damage, according to fire brigade officials.

Media reports said police were assuming that the criminal underworld was behind the blast.

‘Apparently it has to do with the settlement of an outstanding debt,’ a police officer told DPA.

Evidence suggested that the perpetrators had driven up to the nightclub on a motorcycle and thrown a bundle of dynamite in front of its entrance.

The club, called Fever, was due to open Friday night as usual.
