Tokyo, April 10 (IANS) Visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron and his Japanese counterpart Yoshihiko Noda Tuesday agreed to jointly develop military equipment.
During Cameron’s brief trip to Japan, both countries agreed to collaborate with each other on defence projects following Tokyo’s relaxation of a weapons exports ban in December.
The two sides pledged to identify a range of appropriate defence equipment for joint development and production, Xinhua reported.
Japan had announced in December its decision to ease a decades-old, self-imposed ban on weapons exports, in a political shift that will allow Tokyo to participate in arms production with other countries.
Noda and Cameron also discussed the planned satellite launch by North Korea, and urged Pyongyang to exert restraint.
