Kabul, July 20 (Inditop.com) A British fighter jet crashed during takeoff at a NATO airbase in southern Afghanistan, a media report said Monday.

Two crew members of the British Tornado jet managed to eject safely just before the crash at Kandahar airfield at 7.20 a.m. Monday.

Currently, the officers are being treated at a base hospital, the Online news agency reported.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

This was the fourth crash of fighter jets in the past three days in Afghanistan.

Military officials said there was no indication of insurgents’ involvement in the crash.

A fire engulfed the jet soon after the crash, the report said.

The incident came a day after a Russian-owned civilian Mi-8 helicopter crashed at the same airfield, killing 16 people on board.
