London, Dec 2 (IANS) The British Navy has captured seven suspected Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean, the British defence ministry said.

The pirates were picked up by British supply ship RFA Fort Victoria, about 560 km from the Somali coast, the Daily Express reported citing a ministry statement.

The ship was alerted when a Spanish fishing boat came under attack from the pirates.

The British ship sent a helicopter to the scene and a sniper onboard fired warning shots to halt one fleeing pirate vessel.

A second vessel was also halted and the suspected pirates onboard were taken by boat to the Fort Victoria.

‘A total of seven suspected pirates were held with no injuries being sustained by either side. The Royal Navy has once again struck a blow to Somali piracy,’ a ministry spokesman said.
