London, Sep 2 (IANS) Among British school teachers, women far outnumber males — though more men are joining the teaching profession, one in four primary schools still has no male teachers.
Of about 4,000 primary schools in England, 25 percent have no registered male tutors, according to statistics revealed Friday.
A survey by the General Teaching Council for England has found that just about one in eight tutors at primaries is a male — 26,208 compared to 185,023 women.
A quarter of teachers qualifying this year were men, a rise of 2.4 percent since 2008.
However, men fare better in state secondary schools. Only six secondaries in England are without a male teacher, it was found.
Overall, there were 578,755 teachers registered with the council at the end of March, up 1.9 percent on 2010.
